Update -- Tonight’s match will be the first between the teams this season. For Chivas USA, a win would double last year’s victory total with nine regular-season games remaining. Four of those matches are on the road, so securing points at home is vital if fourth-place Chivas USA is to hold off fifth-place Real Salt Lake and the last-place Galaxy. Chivas will be without veteran midfielder Jesse Marsch, who is serving a one-game suspension. Forward Juan Francisco “Paco” Palencia is expected to return from a hamstring strain. Kansas City is tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference but only three points separate second through fifth place. Kansas City will be without U.S. World Cup defender Jimmy Conrad, whose jaw was broken when Clint Dempsey hit him with a left elbow on Aug. 9. Conrad will be sidelined for at least three weeks.
