Quite the Track Record
Wildcat Bettie B is a 3-year-old daughter of Meadowlake who has shown she can win on any track.
In a career that has seen her win five of eight, Wildcat Bettie B has scored at four tracks.
She broke her maiden at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa, won twice at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., won the Ms. Preakness at Pimlico, then became a Grade I winner with a neck victory in the Prioress on July 8 at Belmont Park.
A $42,000 yearling purchase at Keeneland, Wildcat Bettie B will try to win at another track when she takes on seven rivals today in the $100,000 Victory Ride at Saratoga.
Owned by Oasis Racing and trained by Larry Jones, Wildcat Bettie B will be ridden by Mario Pino, who rode her for the first time in the Prioress, where she beat Wild Gams and six others.
Race of the day: Gallardo, who won by 4 1/4 lengths on Aug. 11 in his first race as a gelding, will try to make a successful debut in his first start for owner George Stanley and trainer Mike Mitchell in the seventh race at Del Mar.
A 4-year-old son of Running Stag, Gallardo was claimed for $50,000 by his current connections and surfaces this afternoon in a $68,000 optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles.
Aaron Gryder will be aboard Gallardo, who has won three of 16. Currituck, who has won two in a row; Refinery; the Jerry Hollendorfer-trained entry of Passive Income; and Dr. Einstein and Devil’s Bay complete the field.
One for the road: Political Hostage had a troubled trip when off the board in the seventh race at Arlington Park on Aug. 6 and can spring a mild upset in the seventh race today if able to find a clear path.
Francisco Torres will ride the 4-year-old Hold Your Gold filly for owner-breeder Everest Stables Inc. and trainer Nick Canani in the $31,000 allowance for Illinois-bred fillies and mares at about one mile on the turf.
Exotically speaking: A pick three using Discrete and Swiss Please in the first; She’s Noble and Glassy in the second; and Tizzy’s Tune in the third.
