Bicyclist Riding on Sidewalk Is Killed
A Costa Mesa bicyclist died Thursday after she was struck on the sidewalk by a car whose driver was later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Candace Tift, 31, was riding west on the north sidewalk of West Coast Highway near Riverside Avenue about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when a Lexus allegedly driven by Janene Kathleen Johns, 52, jumped the sidewalk and hit her.
Tift was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where she died the next morning.
Johns, of Irvine, was booked into Newport Beach City Jail with bail set at $100,000.
