Receiver Terrell Owens has been fined $9,500 by the Dallas Cowboys for missing a team meeting and a rehabilitation session and being late to an offensive meeting, the Dallas Morning News reported Sunday.

“That’s our club business. That’s going to be accounted for,” team owner Jerry Jones told the newspaper.

Neither team officials nor Owens’ agent returned calls to the Associated Press seeking comment Sunday.

The events occurred Friday, the Cowboys’ last day of preparation for an exhibition game against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.

The Cowboys defeated the 49ers, 17-7, making them 3-0 in exhibition games, all without Owens, who is nursing a hamstring injury that has kept him out of 19 of 31 practices since the start of training camp.

During a postgame television interview, Jones did not mention the fine but answered several other questions about Owens, who is in his first season with the Cowboys after turbulent stints with the 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jones said his only concern with the receiver is “injury, not all this other stuff you hear about.” He seemed to downplay the drama surrounding Owens’ injury by noting that Carolina’s Steve Smith and Pittsburgh’s Hines Ward also have been slowed by hamstring injuries without drawing the same scrutiny as Owens.

“I know this -- when he’s healthy, he’s going to help us win these ballgames,” Jones said.

The Denver Broncos defeated Houston, 17-14, spoiling the return to Denver of Gary Kubiak, the Texans’ first-year coach who spent nearly two decades as an assistant with the Broncos.

Tatum Bell scored on a one-yard run, and Cedric Cobbs scored on a 26-yard run in the fourth quarter to help lift the Broncos.

Broncos starter Jake Plummer completed 10 of 22 passes for 96 yards, and Texans starter David Carr was 15 for 22 for 128 yards, fumbled once, had a pass intercepted at his 20-yard line and couldn’t lead Houston into the end zone in seven possessions.

Denver’s biggest off-season acquisition, Javon Walker, caught three passes for 41 yards, his first receptions since injuring his right knee in Green Bay’s opener last year.

Atlanta released Bryan Randall, meaning that D.J. Shockley will be the Falcons’ No. 3 quarterback.

The Falcons selected Shockley in the seventh round of the draft in April. This marked the second time in two years that the Falcons put Randall on waivers.

Defensive end Alex Brown will sit out the Chicago Bears’ exhibition finale against Cleveland on Thursday because of a dislocated right shoulder.

Brown, who has started 48 consecutive games and was a Pro Bowl alternate last season, injured the shoulder in the first quarter against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday.

New York Giants linebacker Carlos Emmons returned to practice after sitting out more than three weeks because of a pinched nerve in his neck.

But Coach Tom Coughlin said he was not sure whether the 11-year veteran would play in the Giants’ exhibition finale against the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
