Injecting race into debate over dairy
Re “Black history at risk?” Dec. 6
Those protesting the construction and establishment of the proposed dairy operation near the town of Allensworth have made legitimate complaints, but some are taking a slightly ridiculous attitude. They seem to regard the proposition as racist, convinced that if this were not an African American historic site, no one would have dared impugn its honor in such a way. If you’re Christian, Muslim or a member of a minority and things aren’t going your way, it’s becoming common to blame everything on people who supposedly conspired against you because of your race or religion.
The dairy operation has doubtlessly been suggested as a way to make money, and showing disdain for African American values and history holds very little importance to the corporate mind.
