Man dies, youth hurt in Stanton shootings
A 21-year-old man was killed and a teenager wounded in shootings in Stanton early Saturday, officials said. Police did not release the victims’ names.
Officers were called about 1 a.m. to the area of Santa Gertrudes Avenue and Santa Maria Street where they found the body of a man, said Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Ted Boyne.
An hour later they found the wounded 17-year-old about a block away. He was hospitalized at UCI Medical Center and was expected to recover, Boyne said.
Deputies are investigating whether the shootings are connected and whether they are gang-related, according to Boyne. No arrests were made, he said.
