Texas Tech’s Sharp to Resign

Marsha Sharp, the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame coach who won an NCAA title at Texas Tech in 1993, said Friday that she is resigning at the end of the season. Sharp, 53, who said her health is fine now, made the announcement near the end of a season marked by a heart problem in January and the Red Raiders’ dropping out of the top 25 for the first time in more than a decade. During her 24 seasons, Sharp has taken Texas Tech (13-2 overall, 8-6 Big 12 Conference this season) to 16 consecutive NCAA appearances.

Louisville freshman guard Bryan Harvey has left the team and intends to transfer. He played in 18 games, averaging 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds. Harvey, who played at Dominguez High, won the 2005 John R. Wooden high school player-of-the-year award.... Sixth-ranked George Washington will, aiming for an undefeated Atlantic 10 season, will be without senior center Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who has a slight tear in the cartilage of his left knee.
