Ex-Mayor Shoots Himself in Chambers
Former Los Angeles Mayor Damien Marchessault, a onetime New Orleans gambler, culminated a controversy over the city’s faulty wooden water pipes by slipping into the empty City Council chambers and shooting himself. A note on the table begged his wife’s forgiveness for his business debts, his drinking and gambling, and his suicide.
