Fitzgerald Rallies UC Irvine, 67-59

Aaron Fitzgerald scored 22 of his game-high 28 points in the second half and UC Irvine rallied for a 67-59 victory over host Cal State Fullerton in a Big West Conference game Saturday.

Nic Campbell had 15 points for the Anteaters (10-8, 6-0 in Big West play), whose six-game winning streak is their longest in four seasons.

Jamaal Brown had 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Titans (9-7, 3-4), who have lost three of their last four games. Justin Burns had 13 points.

Fullerton led, 38-31, before Fitzgerald scored 14 points during a 25-3 run that put Irvine ahead, 56-41, with 7 minutes 55 seconds to play.

The Titans responded with an 11-2 run and cut the deficit to 58-52, but Patrick Sanders made a three-point basket that extended the Anteaters’ lead to 61-52 with 3:07 remaining.

Irvine, second in the nation in three-point shooting at the beginning of the week, made nine of 20 three-point shots.

Long Beach State 82, UC Riverside 70 -- Kejuan Johnson had 18 points at Riverside to help the 49ers win their third consecutive game.

The 49ers (9-8, 4-2 Big West) shot 51.6% (32 for 62) from the field. They went on a 24-9 run in the second half that turned a 51-51 tie into a 75-60 lead with 3:31 to play.

Long Beach State shot 58% in the second half.

Rickey Porter scored 22 points and Dedrick Bates had 21 for the Highlanders (2-15, 2-5).

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 74, UC Santa Barbara 62 -- Dawin Whiten scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half to lead the Mustangs at San Luis Obispo.

Derek Stockalper had 16 points and Gabe Stephenson had 11 for the Mustangs (5-11, 3-2 Big West), who committed only two turnovers.

Cecil Brown led UC Santa Barbara (7-9, 1-4) with 15 points.

The Gauchos went on an 11-3 run early in the second half to take their only lead of the second half, 47-46, with 11:32 to play, but Whiten made a three-pointer to regain the lead for the Mustangs, who shot 54.2% in the second half.

It was San Luis Obispo’s first home victory this season over a Division I team.

Loyola Marymount 72, Santa Clara 62 -- Wes Wardrop scored 18 points and Chris Ayer had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the host Lions (7-12, 4-1 West Coast Conference) to their fourth victory in five games.

Matthew Knight had his 10th double-double of the season for the Lions with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Santa Clara (8-8, 1-3) trimmed the Lions’ lead to 60-57 with 2:41 left after Brandon Rohe’s three-pointer. But the Lions made 11 of 14 free throws in the last 2:20 to secure the victory.

St. Mary’s 83, Pepperdine 61 -- Daniel Kickert scored 26 points at Malibu and the Gaels ended a three-game skid.

The Gaels (8-8, 1-3 WCC) shot 57.4% (27 for 47) from the field and made 50% of their three-point shots. The Waves (5-12, 1-4) shot 33.3% en route to their third consecutive loss.

Russell Hicks scored 12 points, and Willie Galick and Michael Gerrity each had 10 for Pepperdine.
