St. Louis 1, at Colorado 0: Albert Pujols hit his 33rd homer and Chris Carpenter (10-4) scattered seven hits over 7 1/3 innings. Jason Jennings (6-9) took the loss, the first complete-game loss for a Rockies pitcher at home in franchise history.

Pittsburgh 6, at Milwaukee 1: Jeromy Burnitz hit two home runs to spoil Ben Sheets’ first outing after being sidelined for nearly three months. Sheets pitched seven innings, giving up only one run and retiring the final 14 batters he faced, but the Pirates broke the game open against Dave Bush (6-8).

at Washington 8, San Francisco 6: The Nationals overcame two homers by Ray Durham and had a five-run third inning against Matt Morris (8-8).

Arizona 6, at Philadelphia 5: Rookie Carlos Quentin hit a solo home run to lead off the 11th. It was his third homer of the season. Ramon Pena (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings to earn his first major league win.

Chicago 8, at New York 6: Carlos Zambrano (11-3) hit his fourth homer of the season and won his eighth decision in a row. New York has lost three in a row for only the second time. “I’m not worried about it. I don’t know if anybody else is,” Mets outfielder Cliff Floyd said. “It’s nothing serious.”

Florida 2, at Atlanta 1: Cody Ross homered twice and Anibal Sanchez (4-0) won a matchup of unbeaten rookie pitchers by beating Chuck James. Sanchez has won three in a row. He struck out three and didn’t walk a batter in seven innings.
