Two Could End Losing Streaks

Share

Jockey Freddy Fong and Lupita’sluckyangel, the 3-year-old Flying Continental filly he will ride in the third race today at Hollywood Park, have something in common.

Lupita’sluckyangel is winless after seven starts in a career that began New Year’s Day. Fong is also winless in 2006, having failed to score with his first 47 mounts.

They will try to end their frustration in what is a weak start to the first pick six of the week in Inglewood.

Owned by breeders Pier Group Stables and trained by Doug O’Neill, Lupita’sluckyangel did run the best race of her life when paired with Fong for the first time May 15.

Dispatched at 20-1 after having failed to finish better than fifth in her first six races, Lupita’sluckyangel was part of the pace, and while no match for eventual winner Guest, she did finish second, half a length ahead of Obassa.

Race of the day: Met At Dinner will try for his fifth win in six starts since being claimed by trainer Steve Miyadi in the sixth race today at Bay Meadows. Russell Baze will ride the 5-year-old Formal Dinner gelding, who had won only once in 24 starts before being claimed for $6,250 on Jan. 20 for owner Carl VanBurger in the $4,000 claimer at six furlongs.

One for the road: Apple Of His Eye goes route to sprint and should hold on better at the shorter trip in his second race on the turf in the ninth race today at Belmont Park.

Channing Hill will ride the 3-year-old Western Expression gelding for owner-breeder Flying Zee Stables and trainer Frank Martin in the $41,000 maiden contest for New York-breds at six furlongs.

Exotically speaking: An early pick four using She’s A Golddigger in the first, Lady Kamala and Demi Marie in the second, Lupita’sluckyangel, Brave Caterina and Sweet Sid in the third and Lightning Hit, Dr. Seacliff and Film Fortune in the fourth.
