From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Authorities shot and killed a mountain lion that had wandered into the parking lot of a condominium complex Tuesday.

Pleasanton police responded to a call at about 8:45 a.m. about the lion roaming the complex. An animal control officer tried to coax the animal, which weighed 70 to 75 pounds, through a fence to an adjacent creek area where it likely came from, but it wouldn’t cooperate, said Troy Swauger, spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Game.

A Fish and Game warden arrived, determined the big cat was a danger to the community after seeing children playing nearby, and fatally shot it.
