Loaded Gun Found at School; 3 Students Held
Three middle school students were arrested late Thursday after police found a loaded semiautomatic handgun on school grounds during an eighth-grade graduation ceremony.
Officers discovered the gun in a backpack hidden beneath some bushes at Adair Community Day School, said Sunnyvale Police Lt. Marty Dale. A 14-year-old and a 15-year-old admitted responsibility and were arrested, Dale said. A 13-year-old attending an unidentified San Jose middle school was arrested later.
“They claim it was simply to protect themselves” from gang assaults, Dale said.
