Crews Battle Blaze Near Littlerock
Firefighters working amid triple-digit temperatures had a 160-acre brush fire in the Angeles National Forest near Littlerock about 80% contained by late Sunday, authorities said.
The fire was reported at about 1:40 a.m. by the entrance station for the Littlerock Recreation Area and Dam, located at Mount Emma and Cheseboro roads, said Angeles National Forest Fire Department spokeswoman Sherry Rollman.
Rollman said the fire started from several small blazes in the area southwest of Littlerock in the Antelope Valley.
The blaze threatened no structures and caused no injuries, she added.
More than 50 firefighters fought the fire during the day and by 11 p.m. there were no smoke or flames within 200 feet of the perimeter.
Approximately 30 firefighters were scheduled to stand watch during the night.
The fire was expected to be fully contained by early today and additional crews sent in at sunrise to mop up, Rollman said.
The cause of the fire hadn’t been determined, Rollman said.
