Demitra Back to Workouts

King forward Pavol Demitra was cleared by team doctors to resume workouts, though there is no set date for his return to the lineup.

Demitra, who had bleeding behind his right eye after being struck by a puck while playing for Slovakia in the Olympics, will skate today and resume off-ice training.

However, Demitra wasn’t sure when he would return to the lineup.

“My vision is still a little blurry, my vision is 20/25,” he said. “The only problem I have is in bright light. So they will have me wear a tinted visor for now. Give me a couple days of skating to get used to that, and we’ll see how it feels.”

Demitra has sat out the Kings’ last four games. The Kings play the St. Louis Blues tonight and the San Jose Sharks on Monday and return home to play the Mighty Ducks on Tuesday.

A more realistic target for Demitra’s return might be Thursday, when the Kings play the Dallas Stars.

“Let’s see how it goes [today],” Demitra said. “Of course, I want to get back as fast as I can, but I want to be OK first.”

Forward Alexander Frolov, out because of a separated shoulder, has been skating every day and also could return to the lineup this week.

Mathieu Garon will be back in net tonight against the Blues. Garon was pulled in the second period of a 7-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. Garon saw 30 shots and made 26 saves before he was taken out 13 minutes 49 seconds into that period.

“The way we were playing in front of the net, I had to get him out of there before he got torched,” Coach Andy Murray said.

Garon left angry, shattering his stick on the ice, but it was not a comment on being yanked.

“I was not happy with how we played,” Garon said. “We were so bad. I felt like we gave that game away.”

The silver lining -- probably the only one -- in the loss was that it gave backup goaltender Jason LaBarbera some playing time. It was his first game since Feb. 11, when he played 49 minutes against the Chicago Blackhawks.

“Obviously, I didn’t like the situation, but it was good to get some work,” LaBarbera said. “It has been a while, and it did feel a little weird out there. But I got some work, with guys in front of the net battling while the puck was coming at me. Those are things you can’t simulate in practice.”

Update -- Michael Cammalleri’s goal and assist Thursday -- both on power plays -- gave him six goals and 13 points in the last 14 games. His 22 goals tie him with Demitra for the team lead. Cammalleri has a team-high 14 power-play goals. The trade deadline came and went, and forward Keith Tkachuk is still with the Blues. Tkachuk, who has one year left on his contract at $3.8 million, might attract more interest during the off-season.
