at No. 19 Tennessee 17, Kentucky 12: LaMarcus Coker plunged one yard for a touchdown at Knoxville and the defense held on to lead the Volunteers (9-3, 5-3) to their 22nd consecutive victory over the Wildcats (7-5, 4-4). Erik Ainge completed 19 of 33 passes for 240 yards for Tennessee, and completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Robert Meachem in the first quarter. Coker finished with 90 yards in 22 carries. “It’s great to win when you don’t play particularly well,” Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer said. “I don’t remember a game in this series ever being easy at all, and this is an example of their defense doing a great job of taking the challenge.” Kentucky, ranked last in the nation in total defense, made Tennessee work to the very end. The Wildcats moved inside the Volunteers’ 10 but had a delay-of-game penalty and two incomplete passes to end the threat and their chances.

at Mississippi 20, Mississippi State 17: Marshay Green returned a punt 47 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to give the Rebels (4-8, 2-6) a win over the Bulldogs (3-9, 1-7) in the Egg Bowl at Oxford. The game between two of the Southeastern Conference’s worst teams featured little offense, but the Rebels managed a touchdown pass to defensive end Greg Hardy early in the game and held on for the victory with the help of two short field goals by Joshua Shene. Mississippi State kicker Adam Carlson missed a 51-yard field-goal attempt that would have tied the score as time expired. The Bulldogs finish with the worst record in the SEC and have not won more than three games in a season since 2000. Green, a freshman playing in his first Egg Bowl, took a short punt from Blake McAdams at midfield, broke to his left and got a key block from 300-pound defensive lineman Peria Jerry to spring him.
