Toddler Drowns in Pool; Sister, 3, Is Hospitalized
A 2-year-old girl apparently drowned Wednesday, and her 3-year-old sister was hospitalized in critical condition, after they fell into a swimming pool at a vacant home in Palmdale, authorities said.
The two girls made their way through slats in a wooden fence to enter the yard of a home in the 36000 block of 45th Street East. Soon afterward, a relative who was baby-sitting the sisters realized they were missing and discovered them in the pool.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were dispatched to the scene shortly before 1 p.m. The 2-year-old was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, where she was declared dead.
The 3-year-old was admitted to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, authorities said.
The names of the girls were not released.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives continued to investigate the case late Wednesday, but no charges had been filed.
