Ex-Deputy Pleads Not Guilty in Taped Shooting
Former San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Ivory Webb, who was videotaped apparently shooting an Air Force airman after a chase, pleaded not guilty Monday to assault with a firearm and attempted voluntary manslaughter.
Elio Carrion was a passenger in a Chevrolet Corvette driven by his friend, who led Webb and another officer on the high-speed chase Jan. 29 in Chino.
In a videotape of the incident, Carrion is shot three times as he appears to be following Webb’s order to get up off the ground. Deputy Dist. Atty. R. Lewis Cope said the assault with a firearm charge was essentially an “alternative statement of what occurred” for the jury to consider.
