From Times Wire Reports

An ex-convict and construction worker was charged Monday with 17 felony counts in two sexual assaults linked to an investigation of a string of killings.

But Mark Goudeau, 42, has not been called a suspect in the 21 other attacks that have left eight people dead since August 2005, Maricopa County prosecutor Andrew Thomas said.

A predator known as the Baseline Killer has terrorized the Phoenix area with crimes including homicide, rape and robbery. The case is one of two recent serial predator cases in Phoenix. Police arrested two men in the other, dubbed the Serial Shooter investigation. Goudeau is accused of attacking two sisters in September 2005 while they were walking in a park at night. His lawyer said he plans to plead not guilty.
