Quarterback Trent Green sustained a “very, very severe concussion” when his head was slammed into the ground while being tackled by Cincinnati’s Robert Geathers and will be hospitalized at least until today, the Kansas City Chiefs said Monday.

“He’s feeling much better,” Chiefs President Carl Peterson said. “But he has a very king-sized headache. Hopefully he’ll be able to go home tomorrow.”

The two-time Pro bowl quarterback will be listed as questionable this week at Denver. Peterson said he didn’t know when Green might return.

Losing Green for long could be devastating to the Chiefs. Starting at Denver will be journeyman Damon Huard, who until Sunday had not completed a pass in the NFL since Dec. 24, 2000. Behind Huard are rookies Brodie Croyle and Casey Printers, both of whom were unimpressive in the preseason.

“There’s no question this will test the football team,” Peterson said. “Trent Green has been a tremendous leader for us both on and off the field. We’re anticipating that Trent will get through this and get well and be back with us. At this point, though, I wouldn’t put any time on it.”

The Green Bay Packers agreed to terms with wide receiver Koren Robinson, who was recently cut by the Minnesota Vikings after being charged with drunk driving.

The Packers gave Robinson a two-year deal one day after they were shut out for the first time since 1991, but General Manager Ted Thompson said the team wasn’t making a desperation move.

“No,” Thompson said. “We’ve been thinking about this for some time.”

San Diego Chargers linebacker Steve Foley remained hospitalized in fair condition eight days after he was shot by an off-duty Coronado police officer who suspected him of drunk driving, his agent said. Foley was shot three times -- twice in the back of the left leg and once on the outside of the left thigh, agent David Levine said. Foley also has what is believed to be a gunshot wound to his right hand.

Hayward, who signed a five-year, $25-million contract in March 2005, led the team with 8 1/2 sacks and 59 quarterback pressures last season.

St. Louis Rams center Andy McCollum will miss the rest of the season because of two torn ligaments in his left knee. McCollum, a 13-year veteran, made his 156th consecutive start in Sunday’s 18-10 victory over the Denver Broncos.

The Miami Dolphins signed center Trey Darilek, making roster room by waiving former starter Wade Smith. Darilek played in 18 games as a reserve with Philadelphia over two seasons before being waived Sept. 2.

San Francisco left guard Larry Allen is expected to miss at least two games because of an injured knee ligament, and left tackle Jonas Jennings could play for the 49ers on Sunday despite his sprained ankle.
