Freeway Crash Kills Longtime Firefighter

A 30-year veteran of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection was killed Saturday after his car struck a gasoline truck along the 10 Freeway in Colton.

Battalion Chief Steve Faris, 57, died after his Ford Explorer rolled on the eastbound side of the freeway, near the 215 interchange, agency spokesman Bill Peters said. Authorities are investigating the accident, and funeral services are pending.

The gasoline truck struck the Ford Explorer after the rollover.
