Fan will sell Bonds’ 755th home-run ball

Adam Hughes, a 33-year-old plumber from La Jolla, said Friday that he was going to sell Barry Bonds’ record-tying 755th home-run ball through Sotheby’s and SCP Auctions.

The minimum bid price has not been determined. The same auction house sold Bonds’ 700th homer ball for $102,000 in 2005.

Hughes got the ball in the left-center field seats last Saturday at Petco Park in San Diego. Bonds’ homer tied Hank Aaron’s career mark.

Roger Clemens of the New York Yankees declined to appeal the five-game suspension he received for hitting Toronto’s Alex Rios with a pitch this week and began serving the penalty on Friday night.

The Chicago Tribune, citing a major league source, reported on its website that the Cubs have claimed outfielder Scott Podsednik on waivers from the Chicago White Sox.

Rick Guttormson , a pitcher from Torrance who played in the San Diego and Seattle minor league systems, has become the first player in Japanese baseball history to flunk a drug test. He was suspended for 20 days after testing positive for a banned substance. His team, the Fukuoka Hawks, was fined $63,000.
