HIT AND MISS
Hit: Boo Weekley shot a five-under 65, despite a three-putt bogey at the 18th. With a birdie, he would have matched Tiger Woods’ major-record-tying 63 from the day before. Weekley, as unpretentious as they come, was unimpressed and also unaware of his brush with history. “Really? That would have been nice,” he said.
* Miss: Red shirts . . . worn by Stuart Appleby, Phil Mickelson and Retief Goosen. When it’s 101 degrees and the heat index 105? None of the trio broke par (maybe they should have tried white shirts?). Appleby shot a 72, Mickelson shot a 75 and Goosen shot a 74.
