More animals adopted than euthanized

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The city’s animal services agency found homes for more animals than it euthanized over the last fiscal year, according to new statistics touted by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at a Tuesday news conference outside City Hall.

Villaraigosa said that in the 12 months ending July 1 the city’s six shelters put 25,270 animals into new homes -- about 47% of animals brought to city shelters.

City statistics show that 20,077 animals, including about 17,316 dogs and cats, were euthanized.
