“ ‘The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.’ [Director] Julian Schnabel’s approach was so brave in that you don’t see your main character for at least half an hour. You’re seeing his point of view and he’s unable to move, so the frame is like a woman’s chin and her neck, it’s not perfectly framed and it’s not perfectly focused. It was inventive and imaginative. I knew that Julian . . . was capable of great, great stuff, but I had no idea that he had that in him.”
