Morris helps Long Beach State defeat San Francisco

Donovan Morris scored a career-high 26 points as Long Beach State defeated the University of San Francisco, 71-68, Tuesday night at the Pyramid.

Morris made nine of 14 shots and seven of eight free throws, including two with 20.3 seconds remaining to give the 49ers a three-point lead.

The Dons still had a chance to tie it, but Dior Lowhorn’s attempt was off the mark. Maurice Clady got the rebound for Long Beach State (3-6) as the game ended.

San Francisco (4-7) dropped to 0-5 on the road and has lost all four games it has played against Big West opponents.

Darnell Porter also scored a career-high 18 points for the 49ers, who shot 55.6%.

Manny Quezada and Myron Strong each scored 18 points for the Dons. Lowhorn added 14.

Arkansas Little Rock 70, Pepperdine 65: Shane Edwards led the host Trojans with 15 points and three steals. Arkansas Little Rock (9-1) got 22 points off turnovers and 10 on fastbreaks to stay on top in a close game that saw the Trojans leading only 28-26 at the half.

The Trojans made only 31% of their shots in the first half, but shot 68% after intermission.

Pepperdine (5-8) got 18 points and 12 rebounds from Malcolm Thomas. Rico Tucker and Daniel Johnson added 10 points each for the Waves.

Terrance Akins and Mike Smith each had 11 points for the Trojans.
