WE all have our favorite films and performances of the year, but that got us wondering: What are the favorites of some Golden Globes winners and nominees?

Robert Downey Jr. (past supporting actor winner for “Ally McBeal,” winner as part of the ensemble cast for “Short Cuts” and actor nominee for “Chaplin”)

“ ‘The Prestige.’ It’s like the old film ‘The Seven-Per-Cent Solution’ -- that Sherlock Holmes movie -- it was so not what you expected. To me, it was a Ferrari engine of a script, and Christian Bale is always exciting and innovative. The scene where Hugh Jackman is dying and then has a page and a half monologue....How do you deliver a speech like that? But Jackman handled it.”

“ ‘Babel.’ I have to say I am a big fan of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and what he talks about -- complex plot lines and characters. He always gets great performances out of people.”

“I thought Matt [Damon] was pretty great in ‘The Departed’ and ‘The Good Shepherd.’ ‘Shepherd’ might have been my favorite performance of the year.”

Maggie Gyllenhaal (actress nominee for “Sherrybaby”)

“Ryan Gosling in ‘Half Nelson’ -- I thought that was an incredible performance. I was inspired by Ryan. When I was watching the movie, it made me want to act. It made me want to work.”

Todd Field (nominee with Tom Perrotta for the “Little Children” screenplay)

“I liked ‘The Illusionist’ a lot. I thought Edward Norton was fantastic. I started out being a magician as a very young person, and it was an embarrassment of riches for me this year to be able to see two period movies about magicians. I think I watched Christopher Nolan’s film ‘The Prestige’ and Neil Burger’s film [‘The Illusionist’] as a double feature.”

“ ‘Babel.’ I thought it was about such small but complex ideas. People love it or don’t get it and I so got it. I thought the ideas were just so big, and in fact, universal.”

“I was fascinated by ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ -- the tone of it. To get comedy and tragedy at the same time, it always, for me, is a miracle.”

“I was incredibly impressed with Forest Whitaker in ‘The Last King of Scotland.’ That was a thrilling performance. I appreciated the incredible nuances of it.”
