Brush fire chars 40 acres; firefighter hurt
Fanned by dry, erratic winds, a brush fire broke out north of Fillmore on Wednesday and charred 40 acres before it was contained by firefighters.
The blaze started shortly after 9 a.m. near the intersection of Goodenough Road and 8th Street, officials said.
Nearly 200 firefighters, assisted by water-dropping helicopters, were able to control the blaze by 2 p.m.
No structures were damaged, but one firefighter was taken to a hospital with a minor injury, said Ventura County Fire Capt. Barry Parker.
County fire crews were called out earlier this week to battle a 30-acre blaze in Thousand Oaks. The causes of both fires are being investigated, Parker said.
