4 homicides in 7 hours in Long Beach

A man was fatally shot in Long Beach early Monday in what police said was the fourth homicide in the city in less than 24 hours.

The victim was shot about 4 a.m. near the area of 19th Street and Easy Avenue, said Sgt. Dina Zapalski. No other details about the shooting were available.

Overnight, three other men were killed in Long Beach in what appeared to be unrelated incidents, Zapalski said.

At 10:45 p.m. Sunday, police responded to reports of an altercation among several individuals in an alley in the 1100 block of East 17th Street and found a 23-year-old man with several stab wounds to the upper torso.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he died, Zapalski said.

At 9:40 p.m., Long Beach resident Cesar Rolando Moran was fatally shot at a bar in the 400 block of West Willow Street, Zapalski said. Moran, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, Zapalski said.

Police are searching for a suspect, believed to be in his mid-20s, who fled the scene in a gray or silver pickup truck, police said.

At about 9:30 p.m., Long Beach resident Arelio Perez, 21, was shot in the 1500 block of Pine Avenue, Zapalski said. Perez was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the torso, she said.

There have been 24 homicides in Long Beach this year, Zapalski said.
