Captivating stuff: ‘Harry,’ karaoke and a torture flick

You will inevitably talk about: Boy wizards. A “Harry Potter” perfect storm is brewing with the fifth movie being released this week and the final book coming later this month. You won’t talk about: The Taylor Hicks memoir. Most of us know more about the rubbery, gray-haired “American Idol” winner than we could ever possibly need. Even if you know nothing about him, that’s probably plenty. But if you disagree, you can pick up his autobiography “A Heart Full of Soul: An Inspirational Memoir About Finding Your Voice and Finding Your Way.” (Tuesday)

You might talk about: Interpol. Anyone else tired of this NYC-based band that defines the term “style over substance”? Nevertheless, lots of people like the group, and not all of them are mopey teenagers. The new album, the band’s first on Capitol, is called “Our Love to Admire.” (Tuesday)

You should definitely talk about: Karaoke game shows. NBC airs “The Singing Bee,” a show that tests contestants’ ability to accurately sing popular songs. Joey Fatone hosts and the show begins with an audience-wide singalong (fun!). And in case one karaoke game show isn’t enough, Fox airs the similar sounding “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” with Wayne Brady the following day. (Tuesday, Wednesday)

You could talk about: Joffe’s Horror Film. The controversial torture flick “Captivity” is released this week. Director Roland Joffe directed “The Killing Fields” back in 1984, but we doubt this film will win any Oscars. (Friday)
