Police shoot carjacking suspect after chase
Police shot and wounded a carjacking suspect after a 15-minute, high-speed chase from Torrance through South Los Angeles early Saturday, police said.
Devion D. Daniels, 18, of Los Angeles was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, said Sgt. Steve D’anjou of the Torrance Police Department.
Torrance police were alerted shortly after 12:30 a.m. to an armed carjacking of a 2004 Lexus in Hawthorne. After the vehicle was spotted about 1:55 a.m. near Sepulveda Boulevard and Cabrillo Avenue in Torrance, the driver led officers on a chase reaching speeds up to 100 mph.
About 2:10 a.m., officers stopped the driver by ramming the Lexus with their patrol car, after which the suspect was shot by police, said Lt. Rod Irvine.
