AFI crowd runs some familiar lines with honoree Al Pacino

Halloween came early for George Lopez, who paid tribute to 1. Al Pacino at the AFI Life Achievement Award dinner at the Kodak Theatre on June 7 by dressing up as Tony Montana. Perhaps the white suit and red collared shirt helped the comedian get into the Method-actor mood before riffing on the “Scarface” line: “Say hello to my little friend!” Luckily, Pacino had mentor Charlie Laughton by his side to better endure the roasting, which included “Insomnia” costar Robin Williams leading the crowd, including Winona Ryder, Jamie Foxx, Sean Penn and Chris O’Donnell, in an “Attica” chant. Williams teased, “If you put Robert De Niro in a dryer you’d get Al Pacino!”

Skin is in for Hollywood stars

The one person noticeably missing from the audience at the MTV Movie Awards at Gibson Amphitheatre on June 3? 5. Cameron Diaz. Blame her itty-bitty Luella dress, which rendered sitting down impossible. 6. Chloe Sevigny dared to bare in a more practical but equally eye-popping dress on June 7. That way she could actually sit down to watch the premiere of her HBO series “Big Love” at Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome, while 7. Jamie Lynn Spears settled into her seat at the Nancy Drew premiere on June 9 in a short-shorts onesie.

Four for ‘Thirteen’ ain’t bad

The “Ocean’s Thirteen” L.A. premiere after-party on June 5 featured a pyrotechnics display, but Brad Pitt and his baby mama, Angelina Jolie, set off their own fireworks on the red carpet with their matching black outfits, hand-holding, and oh-so sultry gazing. 8. George Clooney, 9. Matt Damon, and 10. Pitt indulged their snap-happy fans while 11. Jolie picked up the slack for the remaining male admirers. Talk about getting lucky!

Hayman has a street to call his own

IT takes a special guy to warrant the likes of Placido Domingo belting out a rousing “Happy Birthday.” But then, to L.A. Opera and a host of other arts groups and musicians -- such as the mariachis, gospel choir and classical violinists also on hand to ring in the party -- philanthropist Fred Hayman stands apart. Beverly Hills thinks so too of the man dubbed the “Godfather of Rodeo Drive” for his efforts promoting the tony shopper’s mecca during his four decades -- nearly three as owner of Giorgio’s (yes, that same Giorgio’s of the storied scent). And so city leaders seized the occasion of the recent black-tie street gala commemorating his 82nd birthday to finally christen the thoroughfare between Rodeo and Dayton as Fred Hayman Place. Sculptor Robert Graham presented him with a work commissioned by some of the 250 friends there. And longtime pal Merv Griffin, who like so many of the guests knew Hayman during the Coconut Grove and Hilton days of the ‘50s, surprised everyone by singing “Isn’t It Romantic.”
