* Baltimore 6, at Boston 3: The Orioles got help when Red Sox right fielder Wily Mo Pena misplayed two consecutive balls in the fifth inning; one went over his head for an RBI ground-rule double, another glanced off his glove for a run-scoring, two-base error that made it 5-2.

* at Toronto 5, Tampa Bay 1: A.J. Burnett won for the first time in three starts and the Blue Jays ended a nine-game losing streak. It was Burnett’s first win since beating the New York Yankees on April 26. Staff ace Roy Halladay was rushed to the hospital before the game for an appendectomy, which will keep him out at least four weeks.

* at Chicago 2, Kansas City 1: Jon Garland held the Royals without a run for eight innings. He gave up four hits and a run in 8 1/3 innings and won his second straight start.

* at Seattle 3, New York 0: Jarrod Washburn yielded six hits -- all singles -- in eight innings and Kenji Johjima hit a two-run homer. It was the first time in 10 starts against the Yankees that Washburn has held them scoreless.

* Angels 6, at Texas 3: John Lackey took a shutout into the ninth inning before departing after the 596th homer of Sammy Sosa’s career.
