The also-ran is becoming the new king of all media

You’ll be hearing about: Hollywood’s must read. Oscar winner, media darling and former Vice President Al Gore has a new book coming out this week called “The Assault on Reason.” The jacket copy describes it as a “powerful manifesto for clear thinking.” The Bush White House might disagree with that, but we’ll bet Leo’s on board. (Tuesday)

You’ll be reading about: “A Mighty Heart.” Angelina Jolie plays Mariane Pearl, the wife of reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and killed while researching a story in Pakistan. The film premieres at Cannes this week. (Monday)

You’ll be crying about: The end of “Idol.” It’s been a good run. Sanjaya made us laugh, and “Idol Gives Back” night made us cry. There are sure to be big surprises on the final night, but Fox is being notoriously tight-lipped. (Wednesday)

You’ll be caring about: The “Lost” season finale. There have been some rough patches during the third season of television’s twistiest show (and we’re not referring to the murder mystery episode), but it’s recently reclaimed the intense, creepy glory of its early days. (Thursday)

You’ll be freaking out about: “Heroes.” The breakout show of the season, “Heroes” Vol. 1 comes to an end this week. Creator Tim Kring (see the center of this page) pens the final episode (he’d call it “chapter”) titled “How to Stop an Exploding Man.” (Monday)

You’ll be curious about: Hanson’s new album. The brothers Hanson -- best known for that catchy “MMMBop” song -- are back after a four-year hiatus. Their hair is shorter, and the gawky older brother turned out to be the handsome one. The album is called “The Walk.” (Tuesday)
