A 3-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man were wounded in a weekend shooting, authorities said Monday. The two, whose names were not released, were taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The incident occurred about 4 p.m. Sunday when two men approached the 20-year-old in the 400 block of South Birch Street and fired several shots, said Sgt. Pete Bollinger of the Santa Ana Police Department. The child, who was nearby with her mother, was struck in the arm.

The shooters fled in what police say may be a dark-colored compact car.

The incident is being investigated as a possible gang-related shooting, Bollinger said.
