Jaguars vow stiffer fines, suspensions

Having seen too much bad behavior from his players, Jacksonville Jaguars Coach Jack Del Rio promised stiffer punishments Monday for anyone else caught breaking the rules.

Del Rio also suspended rookie linebacker Justin Durant and second-year offensive tackle Richard Collier another game and fined them following their arrests last weekend. Both were suspended for Sunday’s loss to New Orleans.

Durant was cited for resisting arrest without violence and having an open alcohol container. Collier was charged with driving under the influence in a separate incident.

Del Rio also fined left tackle Khalif Barnes for tardiness on Saturday.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson was undergoing treatment and tests on his right foot amid fears he could be sidelined for an extended period after being injured in Sunday’s loss to Green Bay.

The Carolina Panthers could be forced to sign another quarterback with David Carr questionable after suffering a concussion in Sunday’s loss to Tennessee. With Vinny Testaverde (Achilles’ tendon) hurting, undrafted rookie Matt Moore is the only healthy quarterback.

Washington Redskins safety LaRon Landry and Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey were fined one game check each by the NFL for hits with the helmet. Landry was fined $16,764 for making helmet-to-helmet contact with New York Jets quarterback Kellen Clemens. Ramsey was fined $21,176 for spearing Dallas Cowboys running back Julius Jones.

Tennessee Titans rookie running back Chris Henry faces a four-game suspension from the NFL, and he is considering an appeal of his positive test for a substance added to the league’s banned list within the past year.

Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler was diagnosed with a badly bruised left leg instead of a hairline fracture and is questionable for Sunday at Kansas City. Cutler was injured Sunday against Detroit when he took a helmet to the lower leg.

Green Bay safety Nick Collins will miss several games because of a knee injury after making an awkward tackle in Sunday’s victory over Kansas City. An MRI exam was negative.

St. Louis Rams defensive end Leonard Little will have surgery this week to repair a torn ligament in his left big toe, ending his season. He was injured in a Oct. 14 loss to Baltimore. . . . Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson, carted off the field as a precaution Sunday after a hard hit, suffered a strained neck and could play Sunday at Baltimore, the team said. . . . Defensive tackle Tank Johnson was activated by the Dallas Cowboys after completing an eight-game suspension. . . . A day after some unusual sounds were heard during the Indianapolis Colts-New England Patriots broadcast in the RCA Dome, the NFL issued a statement saying what sounded like simulated crowd noise was actually created by the CBS production crew, not the Colts. Artificial noise would violate NFL rules.
