Harris carries Santa Barbara

Alex Harris scored seven of his 27 points in the final four minutes to lift UC Santa Barbara to a 74-69 victory over the University of San Francisco on Tuesday night at the Thunderdome.

Chris Devine added 18 points, including four straight free throws in the final 31 seconds, for the Gauchos (4-1).

The Dons (2-2), led by Dior Lowhorn’s 21 points, reduced a 13-point deficit to four points, 57-53, with six minutes to go.

But Harris and Devine scored 14 of Santa Barbara’s last 15 points to keep San Francisco from getting any closer.

The Gauchos outshot the Dons 49% to 45.8%, with Harris making four of seven shots from three-point range.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 73, Southern Utah 66 -- Titus Shelton scored 15 points and Chaz Thomas and Dreshawn Vance added 14 points each to lead the Mustangs (3-2) past the host Thunderbirds (1-3).

Shelton made six of seven shots, including a critical layup and two free throws in the final two minutes. Geoff Payne led Southern Utah with 29 points, including 21 in the first half, and 12 rebounds. David Marek scored all 12 of his points in the second half and Tate Sorensen added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Thunderbirds.

Southern Utah won the rebound battle, 36-33, but committed 20 turnovers and missed 15 free throws.
