Alex Brink threw for 399 yards and five touchdowns, the last a 35-yarder to Brandon Gibson with 31 seconds left, and Washington State (5-7, 3-6) rallied to win the 100th Apple Cup, 42-35, against Washington on Saturday night at Seattle.

Brink completed 27 of 40 passes in his 40th and final start. He became the first Cougars quarterback to beat the Huskies three times and set a record for passing yards in the Apple Cup. Washington State’s career leader in all major passing categories finished his career fourth in Pacific 10 Conference history in passing yards.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Jake Locker led Washington (4-8, 2-7) with 103 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and 224 yards passing.

Notre Dame 21, Stanford 14 -- Robert Hughes ran for 136 yards and the go-ahead six-yard touchdown with 6:06 left to help the Fighting Irish (3-9) end the season with consecutive wins for the first time in 15 years by beating the Cardinal (3-8) at Palo Alto.

After Derek Belch missed his fourth field-goal try for Stanford, a 49-yarder after an interception by Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame drove for the winning score. Hughes broke off a 44-yard run down to the Cardinal eight and scored two plays later.
