On the wings of the Eagles

THE Nokia Theatre takes flight next Thursday with a special double bill, the Eagles and the Dixie Chicks. The Eagles are ramping up to the Oct. 30 release of “Long Road Out of Eden,” the group’s first studio album since 1979; the Chicks, meanwhile, are still basking in their golden Grammy night this year, when their CD “Taking the Long Way” earned awards for song, record and album of the year.

The two, which both roam the acoustic regions between country and rock, will share the stage for six shows at the new 7,100-seat venue. Additional tickets for each show were released Wednesday; for information, see www.nokiatheatrelalive.com.

The newest L.A. venue has other notable names lined up for its first season:

Sugarland, Oct. 28: CMT presents the Grammy-nominated Atlanta country duo on its first national tour as a headliner.

Queens of the Stone Age, Oct. 29: The riff-loving Palm Desert band gives the Nokia its first metal test.

Neil Young, Oct. 30 and Nov. 2: The venerable folk-rocker plays “an intimate acoustic/electric evening.”

Anita Baker, Nov. 3: The eight-time Grammy winner made her return to the scene with the 2004 album “My Everything.”

Mary J. Blige, Nov. 20: Blige led all artists with eight Grammy nominations this year; her album “Growing Pains” is due Nov. 27.

John Fogerty, Nov. 23: The former Creedence Clearwater singer is embracing his past with the aptly titled new album “Revival.”

La Quinta Estacion, Nov. 24: The Madrid natives are based in Mexico, where they hit No. 1 with “Me Muero.”

Enrique Iglesias, Dec. 7: Another Madrid native who in June released “Insomniac,” which features 12 songs in English and three in Spanish.

Michael W. Smith, Dec. 9: The contemporary Christian singer visits with his “It’s a Wonderful Christmas” show.

Bjork, Dec. 12: The Icelandic art-rock auteur released her seventh studio album, “Volta,” in May.

Tori Amos, Dec. 16: The evocative songwriter is a chameleon performing in different personas for her “American Doll Posse” tour.

Aretha Franklin, Feb. 14: The Queen of Soul will soon release a CD of her best duets, among them Frank Sinatra, Elton John and Whitney Houston.
