Two teenage girls were arrested on suspicion of murder Friday in the shooting and carjacking of a Lake Elsinore mother whose 11-month-old child was taken with the car, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies said.

The child was later left unharmed at a doorstep in Perris.

Angelina Arias, 20, was shot Thursday night after stopping on a Lake Elsinore street and offering two girls a ride home, deputies said. She was found in the roadway and died at Inland Valley Medical Center.

Surveillance photos and information from residents led to the arrests Friday of the girls, ages 15 and 17, deputies said. The 15-year-old had been driving Arias’ 2005 Chrysler 300M when she was arrested, Sheriff’s Investigator Denver Saucier said.

The girls live in the Lake Elsinore and Perris areas. Their names were withheld because of their age.

Saucier said late Friday that he did not know if the girls knew Arias. “We’re still piecing things together,” he said.

The girls were booked into juvenile hall.
