Where are the women writers?

Re “ ‘Sopranos’ bling night,” Sept. 17
I couldn’t help but notice the jarring and almost unbelievable fact that stood out on the Emmy telecast Sunday night during the announcement for the writing award for a variety, music or comedy program. Five shows were nominated with a total of 65 writers being honored, and only four were women. That’s a whopping 6.1% and a shameful statistic. Two shows, “Real Time with Bill Maher” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” with a total of 25 writers have no women at all on their writing staffs. “The Daily Show” and “The Late Show with David Letterman” each had one out of 15 writers, and only “The Colbert Report” had more than one, with two women out of 10 writers.
Shame on the hosts and producers who continue to show us just how sexist Hollywood can be.
