* at Cleveland 4, Oakland 3: Fausto Carmona got his 18th victory, Ryan Garko and Jhonny Peralta hit consecutive homers in the sixth inning, and the Indians lowered their magic number to two for clinching their first Central Division title since 2001. They are 6-1 on their final home stand and 21-5 since Aug. 25.

* at Detroit 5, Kansas City 4: Brandon Inge hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the sixth inning and the Tigers kept alive their hopes of making it back to the playoffs. The defending league champions trailed, 4-0, after four innings but came back to take the lead on Sean Casey’s three-run homer in the fifth and Inge’s hit in the sixth.

* Toronto 5, at New York 4 (14 innings): Gregg Zaun homered with one out in the 14th inning on a 1-and-1 pitch from Brian Bruney. The Blue Jays blew a four-run lead in the ninth.

* at Texas 3, Baltimore 2: Luis Mendoza scattered four hits over five innings for his first major league win since being called up from double-A Frisco on Sept. 5.

* Chicago 6, at Minnesota 4: Josh Fields hit two homers and Jim Thome hit the 503rd of his career to lead the White Sox.

* Boston 8, at Tampa Bay 1: Josh Beckett became the first 20-game winner in the majors since 2005.

* Seattle 6, at Angels 0: Former Angel Jarrod Washburn became the latest left-hander to beat the Angels, who are 18-20 this season in games started by left-handers.
