Police were still looking for other suspects Saturday after arresting a woman late Friday in the fatal shooting of a young woman driving near a freeway offramp in South Los Angeles on Thursday, authorities said.

Jessica Ortega, 30, a resident of the Ramona Gardens housing project in Boyle Heights, was arrested on one count of murder in the death of Samantha Padilla, 19, of Los Angeles, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Kate Lopez.

Padilla, a baggage handler at Los Angeles International Airport, was shot just after midnight Thursday near the Slauson Avenue offramp of the northbound Harbor Freeway. She was stopped at a traffic light after exiting the freeway when a brown Ford Bronco pulled up and someone fired into her vehicle.

She was taken to a hospital downtown, where she died of multiple wounds.

Ortega had been detained for questioning Thursday but was released, police said.

Investigators do not know a motive for the killing and do not know if Ortega fired the shots that killed Padilla, Lopez said.
