SAN DIEGO -- Six and a half months later, Matt Holliday and the Colorado Rockies didn’t get anywhere near home plate.

Randy Wolf held the Rockies hitless for 6 2/3 innings and struck out nine, and Brian Giles collected his 1,000th run batted in to lead the San Diego Padres to a 6-0 victory Tuesday night.

It was the first time the teams met since Colorado’s 9-8 victory in the wild-card tiebreaker at Coors Field on Oct. 1. Holliday never appeared to touch home plate in the 13th inning of that game, but umpire Tim McClelland’s delayed safe call gave the Rockies a thrilling victory as they rallied for three runs against career saves leader Trevor Hoffman.

Wolf and reliever Kevin Cameron combined for a two-hitter. It was the Padres’ second consecutive shutout and third of the season. They led the majors with 20 shutouts last year.

The Rockies got only one baserunner as far as second against Wolf (1-0), who earned his first win with the Padres after two no-decisions. He didn’t give up a hit until Brad Hawpe singled up the middle with two outs in the seventh.
