at Seattle 4, Baltimore 2: Jose Vidro’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth broke a tie and Arthur Rhodes picked up his first win in nearly three years. Seattle closer J.J. Putz returned after missing 18 games because of a rib-cage injury to pitch the ninth for his second save in three chances in his first appearance since April 1.

* New York 9, at Chicago 5: Bobby Abreu hit a grand slam in the seventh inning, Chien-Ming Wang earned his 50th career victory and the Yankees won without Alex Rodriguez, who was in Miami for the birth of his second daughter.

* Minnesota 5, at Oakland 4: Jason Kubel hit a go-ahead bloop single in the eighth and Craig Monroe drove in three runs and homered for the first time this season. A’s starter Joe Blanton (1-4) remained winless at home in 2008, dropping to 0-4 in the Coliseum. The A’s three-game winning streak ended.

* at Tampa Bay 6, Toronto 4: The Rays’ Eric Hinske drove in two runs and finished a single shy of hitting for the cycle when Scott Downs struck him out in the eighth.

* at Detroit 10, Texas 2: Magglio Ordonez homered and reached 1,000 runs batted in for his career. Edgar Renteria had four hits for the Tigers, who have won six of nine. Justin Verlander (1-3) pitched six innings, giving up a run and six hits. He lowered his earned-run average to 5.93.

* Cleveland 15, at Kansas City 1: C.C. Sabathia (1-3) went six innings and gave up only four hits and two walks. Gil Meche (1-3) lasted 3 1/3 innings as his ERA ballooned to 8.00 and the Royals lost their fifth straight.

* at Boston 7, Angels 6: Boston emergency starter David Pauley, recalled from triple-A Pawtucket, gave up five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.
