Boy accused of rape at hospital
A 16-year-old robbery suspect who was being held at a private psychiatric hospital slipped out of his room over the weekend and raped a 14-year-old girl, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office alleged.
The boy, who is being charged as an adult and is identified in court papers as Jonathan Aguilar, is accused of rape, forced oral copulation and burglary in connection with the Saturday attack, said spokeswoman Jane Robison.
Aguilar is being held on $1-million bail.
The boy was previously arrested on suspicion of robbery and was in juvenile custody but was later transferred to a county psychiatric facility because of an unspecified issue during his custody, according to sources familiar with the investigation. They requested anonymity because of the ongoing criminal investigation.
He eventually was transferred to Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, where the girl was attacked. Authorities said she was a patient there.
Steve Jennings, director of business development at the psychiatric hospital, said Las Encinas would not comment, citing patient confidentiality.
