Fire is brought under control
The South fire that had been burning for two days was brought under control Tuesday morning, a forest spokeswoman said.
The fire, which scorched 135 acres west of Lancaster, was contained by about 6 a.m., said Dee Dechert, a spokeswoman for Angeles National Forest.
The blaze broke out about noon Sunday near South Portal Road and San Francisquito Canyon Road and initially moved rapidly over steep terrain. It was brought under control by firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, Los Angeles County, Monrovia, the National Park Service, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and crews from as far as Yosemite, Dechert said.
Fire officials were still investigating what caused the fire, Dechert said.
