Two people were killed early Saturday in separate incidents, one in a fire at a nursing home and another in the crash of an ultralight aircraft, authorities said.

The fire broke out at 3:14 a.m. in the 100 block of East 2nd Street, displacing 40 residents and killing one person, said Massiel De Guevara, a spokeswoman for the Riverside County Fire Department.

She said that the victim had not yet been identified and that the blaze was extinguished at 4:10 a.m.

The owners of the nursing home, Perris Place, could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, the pilot of an ultralight aircraft died about 7 a.m. when it crashed in the 3000 block of Goetz Road, De Guevara said.

Bryan Karr Quan, 34, of Charlotte, N.C., was the only person in the small aircraft, and no other injuries were reported.

Authorities said the aircraft lost control during takeoff and crashed in an open field.

The crash was under investigation, authorities said.
