Minnesota 6, at Seattle 5: Denard Span drove in two runs and threw out the potential tying run at the plate in the eighth inning and the Twins’ losing streak ended at four games. The Twins scored three runs in the eighth to take a 6-4 lead. Consecutive doubles by Kenji Johjima and Jeff Clement in the bottom of the inning made it 6-5.

Cleveland 9, at Detroit 7: Kelly Shoppach homered and drove in three runs and Shin-Soo Choo hit a home run to help the Indians win their 10th game in a row. Cleveland’s team record is 13 consecutive wins, accomplished twice, the last time in 1951.

at Tampa Bay 1, Toronto 0: Matt Garza (11-7) and two relievers combined on a six-hitter and Carlos Pena hit his 27th home run. Blue Jays rookie David Purcey gave up five hits and struck out a career-high 11 in eight innings. It was Pena’s sixth homer over his last 13 games.

at Baltimore 11, Chicago 3: Brian Roberts drove in three runs, including one with his American League-leading 46th double, and the Orioles’ skid ended at five games. John Danks (10-7) had not been defeated on the road since May 3, a stretch of nine starts.

Texas 3, at Kansas City 2: Rookie left-hander Matt Harrison (6-3) improved to 4-1 in five August starts and helped send the Royals to their 10th defeat in 11 games.

Boston 11, at New York 3: Jason Bay drove in four runs and Dustin Pedroia hit a grand slam.

Oakland 6, at Angels 5: Emil Brown homered and drove in three runs to help lift the Athletics.
