at San Jose 3, Chicago 2 (SO): Jeremy Roenick scored the winner in the fifth round of the shootout and Evgeni Nabokov stopped four of the Blackhawks’ five attempts. The Sharks ran their winning streak against Chicago to 10.

Dallas 2, at Calgary 1: Niklas Hagman scored early in the third period and Marty Turco stopped 31 shots to help the Stars win their third in a row and maintain a two-point lead over the Sharks atop the Pacific Division.

at Montreal 4, N.Y. Islanders 1: Alex Kovalev had a goal and an assist and the Canadiens scored three times in the second period. Blake Comeau scored his third goal 5:01 into the second for New York, which lost its fourth in a row.

Detroit 3, at Boston 1: Pavel Datsyuk scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, Chris Osgood made 22 saves and the Red Wings won their seventh in a row.

Atlanta 2, at Washington 0: Kari Lehtonen had 36 saves in his third shutout and the Thrashers won despite playing without leading scorer Ilya Kovalchuk.

Minnesota 4, at Columbus 1: Marian Gaborik scored twice, Brian Rolston scored a goal in his fifth consecutive game and the Wild pulled away from a 1-1 tie with three second-period goals in less than six minutes.

at Toronto 4, Ottawa 2: Carlo Colaiacovo and Jason Blake scored third-period goals to lead the Maple Leafs. Dominic Moore and Jiri Tlusty also scored for the Maple Leafs.

Florida 3, at Tampa Bay 2: Richard Zednik scored the go-ahead goal with 1:05 left in the third and Tomas Vokoun made 44 saves. Zednik’s 10th goal came on an in-close rebound.

at Pittsburgh 4, Carolina 1: Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and set up two others during the Penguins’ offensive breakout in the third period. Petr Sykora had a goal and an assist as Pittsburgh scored on four of its first nine shots in the third.

at Nashville 3, Phoenix 2 (OT): Alexander Radulov scored at 4:10 of overtime to lift the Predators. Radek Bonk fired a slap shot from above the right faceoff circle that was stopped by Phoenix goalie Ilya Bryzgalov. The rebound bounced off Radulov’s left shoulder and trickled across the goal line.

Colorado 6, at St. Louis 4: T.J. Hensick and Ben Guite scored two goals each to lead the Avalanche, which was missing Joe Sakic, Paul Stastny and Ryan Smyth because of injuries.

at Philadelphia 3, Ducks 0: Mike Knuble had his first hat trick in 707 career games and Philadelphia improved to 13-3-1 since it was in last place on Christmas.

at New Jersey 6, Kings 3: Colin White had a goal and an assist and the Devils ended a three-game losing streak.
